Happy New Year! 2024 has started with a bang - winter has now arrived! Winter is the time to recharge, to share stories and plan for the next seasonal rounds! It is also a time to not only dive into preparing to complete steps towards club goals for 2023-2024, but to help the team which will transition and keep the action going.

For all of our future 2024-2025 leaders - congratulations - you are embarking on a fabulous journey sparked by the amazing in person experience of Pacific Northwest PETS (President Elect Training Seminar)!! Soak in all the Rotary awesomeness, the fabulous learning, and the opportunities to connect with like minded people of action.

My District Governor club visits are more than 90 percent complete. I’m looking forward to the final few.

I am so beyond delighted and proud of all that our Rotary family has accomplished. Thank you for being brilliant beautiful volunteers committed to making our communities and world better places! So much gratitude for all of your time, tools, talents and treasures - these 4Ts have enabled so much amazing service I cannot help but smile and send you all much appreciation.

Huge shout out to the District team - thank you for ALL your support not only of me but for all District 5040 clubs. None of this would be possible without you all! Stay tuned as there are more opportunities planned by these amazing people - including the continuing learning and development opportunities through the leadership series hosted by District Learning Facilitator Peter Clarke and the grants training sessions by our outstanding District Foundation Committee.

Also District Conference is just a few months away. With limited spaces available remember to register soon! I am so grateful to the conference team. They have faced many challenges with such grace and adaptability I so admire.

Reconciliation is like a dance and often is two steps forward and one step back. It also requires honouring of ways, laws, values and protocols of others. As such, I am sad to report that due to a culture event -- of raising six grave stones -- when we are at our conference, plans for Saturday in the Nass valley with the Nisga’a Nation have shifted. We will now be hosted and work with the staff of Gitlaxdax - an urban Nisga’a organization who are delighted to continue the facilitated peace conversation process with us.

This change enables us to not only keep our word and to honour the dream of 2020-21 DG Dave Hamilton, who had planned to hold that year's conference in Terrace while adhering to the cultural protocols of our Nisga’a friends before he passed away. The conference team is now also working on other cultural experiences with all Indigenous Nations of the area, Stay tuned for more details as we shift, adapt and update our conference plans.

Stay warm, safe and awesome!
