CURRENT DEPLOYMENTS

MALAYSIA  Image
Disaster/Crisis:
Flooding
Status:
Extreme monsoon rains have caused severe flooding in North East Malaysia and around 200,000 people are reported to have been displaced

The ShelterBox Team worked with officials and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) to form a coordinated response and were able to put all 100 tents up in just three days in Gua Musang. This response will help inform best practice for future local responses in Malaysia.

GAZA

Disaster/Crisis:
Conflict

Status:
Gaza City is one of the most dangerous battle zones in the world as fighting between Israeli and Palestinian Militants continues

Due to the nature of the conflict, it is difficult to get aid into the city to help families and communities caught in the crossfire. ShelterBox is working with the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development to distribute 250 boxes to families in desperate need. More will follow once these are distributed.

PAKISTAN

Disaster/Crisis:
Flooding

Status:
Areas of southern Punjab have suffered severe flooding throughout the last few months.

ShelterBox has been requested to help people get through the winter. 1,000 shelter repair kits and 224 ShelterBoxes are en route by sea to Pakistan to assist flooding survivors.

Shelter box partnered with four organizations after Typhoon Haiyan to build safe durable homes for 8000 vulnerable people. A ShelterBox Response Team member reported that these structures held up well in Typhoon Hagupit in December. 2000 tarpaulins were also distributed to families affected by Typhoon Hagupit.

Iraq - Conflict
ShelterBox has propositioned stock in Iraq and is working with ACTED to establish a camp to provide shelter for internally displaced people (IDPs).There are around 1,900 tents in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which have all now been distributed. The ShelterBox operations team is making provisions to supplement the existing stock of shelter in Iraq with winterization kits.

Niger - Flooding
ShelterBox is working with Plan to distribute aid to families affected by flooding. 200 boxes were distributed last month. Another 360 have now arrived in Niger and will be distributed this week.

Sierra Leone - Ebola
Sierra Leone is one of three West African countries with an Ebola outbreak. Around 100 cases of the disease are being reported daily in the country. 60 yellow and black ShelterBoxes have been used to contain foodstuffs on the private ship MV Gypsum Centennial. In addition, 10 SchoolBoxes have also been transported on the vessel, which will be delivered to the Sierra Leonean educational charity Educaid for distribution.
