The last living charter member of Vancouver Club, Alex was born in Brantford, Ontario, in 1975 and passed away in Vancouver in 1963, just 10 days short of his 88th birthday. For 41 years Alex was Secretary of the Northwest Commericial Travelers Association.

ROTARY

Alex had a distinguished career in Rotary and for his many contributions to the Rotary cause and his profound knowledge of Rotary affairs, wa affectionately known as "Mr. Rotary". He served as President of the Vancouver Club in 1915-16, as District Governor of what was then District 22 in 1918-19, and as a Director of Rotary International in 1924-25. At the Golden Anniversary of the Vancouver Club, shortly before his death, he was made an honorary life member of the Vancouver Club. It was a timely and fitting recogniton of a devoted Rotarian.

1919 Convention was held in Salt Lake City with 3,467 attendance. Paul Harris sent his message addressing the Convention as "Friends of the Victory Convention". "A Rotarian who sees nothing in Rotary beyond the business he can get out of it is a dead Rotarian and the sooner he can be buried the better for the cause".
