PERSONAL

Born in Victoria in 1931 Gordon had his education in the public schools of Victoria and Vancouver; and graduated from the University of B.C. with a BA degree in Economics and Commerce; and, a Law degree in 1954. That year he was married to Mary McCorkendale. They have four children.

His hobbies are golf, curling, bridge, tennis, hunting and fishing.

HIS CAREER

From then until 1970 he held various positions, including general manager with Nelson Laundries, Ltd. In 1970 he became President of Christopher Enterprises, Ltd., and now heads that and three other companies; mainly engaged in real estate development work. In addition, Gordon oversees several companies in the U.S. and Canada, one a company developing energy and mineral resources. He is also a director of several other Canadian and U.S. companies.

In his business and industry organizations, he has been President of the Pacific NW Launderers Association, and of the B.C. Laundry, Linen Supply and Dry Cleaners Association; Chairman of the Round Table International, and Young Presidents Organization of B.C. His civic services include leadership in Operation Rehabilitation Workshop for the Handicapped; St. George's School, and Vancouver Hospital where he was Chairman of the Project Building Committee responsible for its $180 million redevelopment.

LIFE WITH ROTARY

In 1954 he joined the Rotary Club of Nanaimo, and before moving to Vancouver in 1959, had served it as Committee Chairman and Vice President. Joining the Vancouver Club then, he has served as Committee Chairman, Director and President.

The Vancouver Club made him a Paul Harris Fellow in 1977.

IN HIS GOVERNOR YEAR

As Governor of District 504 four new clubs were chartered, and a record number of Paul Harris Awards were made. He succeeded in having the President of R.I., Bob Manchester, visit Vancouver together with the first Vice President, Keith Burnham; and as President's representative to his conference, he secured Clem Renouf, later President of R.I.. Since being Governor he has served R.I. as a committee member on the 3H Program, and for 1980-83 is a member of the R.I. Membership Development Committee. He has been President's representative at district conferences in Edmonton and Bimidgi, Minnesota.
