PERSONAL

Harold Philbrick, who succeeded Harry Heal as Manager of the Bellingham Branch of the Seattle First National Bank in 1949, on Harry's retirement, has vivid memories of Harry and of his interesting life. He was born in Portsmouth, England about 1892, and after graduating from a boy's high school he worked for a short time as a clerk in an East India Import House. Emigrating to Bellingham in 1911 he became bookkeeper for the Fair Store. He was then 19. Before long he left to work for the First National Bank of Bellingham, and was its cashier for many years. In 1939 that bank was sold to the Seattle First National Bank, and in 1941 he became Vice-President and Branch Manager.

As can be seen from the cartoon , he was a man of many talents and interests.

CIVIC SERVICES

His civic activities were many: President, Bellingham Chamber of Commerce; Treasurer of Red Cross Chapter; Past Master of his Masonic Lodge and member of Scotish Rite (33rd degree Mason). His hobbies were boating with his "Brass Buttons", golf, and painting landscapes; especially Mount Baker.

ROTARY

He joined the Rotary Club of Bellingham in 1918, one year after it was chartered. He was President of that club in 1932-33 and participated in district activities. During his year as governor, the Rotary Clubs of West Vancouver and Burns Lake were chartered.
