Dr. Irwin Stewart was presented with the first Donald MacRae Peace Award at the Sept 2005 Zone 22 Institute in Winnipeg.

The Rotary Zone 22 Donald MacRae Peace Award is an annual award presented by Rotary Zone 22 to recognize and honour an individual or organization for outstanding achievement consistent with the ideals of Rotary as expressed in the Fourth Object of Rotary. The award focuses on advancing international goodwill, understanding and peace through peace-making efforts or humanitarian activity of international significance.

Dr Stewart was nominated by the Royal City Rotary Club - with letters of recommendation and support coming from several Rotarians from various Clubs in our District.

An excerpt from one of the letters of recommendation says "Dr. Stewart's work in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Thailand, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and the Philippines has inspired many Rotarians and non-Rotarians to get involved in projects and to use their skills and abilities to improve the lives of others around the world. Dr. Stewart encourages sustainability in projects, recognizes the talents of individuals, and creates an ideal of service that embodies the true meaning of Rotary" .

A truly outstanding Rotarian whose hands-on work continues tirelessly - and whose example is an inspiration to all! Congratulations, PDG Irwin.
