On July 11th, approximately 120 golfers teed off at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, BC in the 22nd Annual Pot of Gold Charity Golf Tournament hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Royal City and New Westminster.  Title sponsor was Cassady & Company of New Westminster.  The tournament supports Rotary projects focused on youth in the New Westminster community. The tournament netted over $32,000 this year, and since its inception it has raised almost $500,000 for charity. Also benefitting from the tournament are Salvation Army (New Westminster) and Purpose Society (an alternative education facility in New Westminster for youth who have challenges in the regular school system).
On July 11th last, approximately 120 golfers teed off at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, BC in the 22nd Annual Pot of Gold Charity Golf Tournament.  Title sponsor was Cassady & Company of New Westminster.  The tournament supports Rotary projects focused on youth in the New Westminster community.  It was a warm, sunny day with ideal golf tournament conditions.  The course was in great shape.  Golfers were greeted by 2 BC Lions Felions for photos , and they also ran our chipping contest.   Other contests included longest and straightest drives, and KPs.  The Texas Scramble format made the golf enjoyable for golfers of all skills. Golfers were asked before tee time to guess the number of golf balls that were lost in the water hazards that day, and the lucky winner’s guess was only off by 1 (total 460 balls!).

Following golf, we were joined by family and friends for a delicious buffet dinner.  After dinner there were prizes and a live auction on many packages, including an opportunity for 3 golfers to play a round of golf at Peace Portal Golf Club with Travis Lulay, BC Lions’ quarterback.  The tournament netted over $32,000 this year, and since its inception it has raised almost $500,00 for charity.

The tournament was originally started in 1996 as a fundraising project of the Royal City Rotary Club.  For the past several years the event has been a joint effort with the Rotary Club of New Westminster.  Also benifitting from the tournament are Salvation Army (New Westminster) and Purpose Society (an alternative education facility in New Westminster for youth who have challenges in the regular school system).  The tournament has been blessed with the continued support of golfers, sponsors and donors, many of whom have been with us from the start.
