Bowen Island
• August was a bit of a more low-key month, with less happening on the public side but lots happening behind the scenes
• The August 12th club meeting was a social summer BBQ, as a club networking event with guests and latest club members.
• On August 26 the club held its annual Rotary Run for Rwanda, which was nearly cancelled due to air quality.
Burnaby
• Two new members are already engaged in club activities. Two others are in the pipeline.
• Hybrid club meetings are now first and last Fridays of the month with two fellowships a month to focus on committee work.
• A school for the deaf in Bali continues.

Burnaby Metrotown
• Coats for the Coats for Kids program in October have been sourced and more fundraising is needed to help purchase the coats which are getting more expensive.
Dragon
• New members were welcomed.
• The club supported the Burnaby Lake Run event and raised $3,000 for Burnaby Hospital Foundation.
• President Alice Liu presented cheque at Grace Lutheran Church in Burnaby in the amount of $1,856 from church yard sale fundraiser in support of Burnaby Hospital Foundation.

Gibsons
• The club inducted its newest member, Bob Cotter, a past Rotarian.
• The Gibsons Interact Club has raised nearly $5000 this past year and it received matching funds of $2000 from Gibsons Rotary.
• The August 10th meeting was a pure social event held outside at the Persephone Brewery.
• Luke Vostermans distributed the June 2023 Rotary Progress Report on the 1,000 Survival Garden Kits Project available at https//www.1000survivalgardens.com/rotaryreportJune2023.pdf
• At the August 26th Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Blue Ocean, revenue not only came from sponsors and golfers, but from many people donating through the website small amounts with total donations from individuals now at $3,000. This will be the best showing for funds raised at this event in seven years which is estimated to approach near $30,000.
Ladner
• On August 13th the club supplied and prepared food for the annual summer picnic of special needs adults and their family/caregivers in the South Delta Family and Peer Support Group, with chicken, fresh salads, and deserts for 35 participants. Music, games, and perfect weather, a very enjoyable afternoon for all.
• On August 25th weekend, members helped out with the Steveston club’s garbage pick up project at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club for the Ladies PGA Event.
• On August 18th some members participated in the Rotary clubs of Delta tri-club Annual Golf Tournament at Tsawwassen Springs.
• The club received the Owl 3 hybrid meeting system purchased with funding from the federal government through the Richmond Community Foundation.
• With the construction portion of the project completed we are just waiting on the large wooden bench to be installed at Westham Plaza at the centre of the Ladner community in Delta, to which Rotary Club of Ladner contributed $25,000 for two e-bike charging stations and a large wooden seating area to the City of Delta’s project to create a local gathering spot for residents and visitors. The plaza is scheduled to be officially opened in early September. Part of Rotary’s contribution was made possible by a District 5040 grant.
Lions Gate
• The club has been meeting in hybrid format, but has been shifting to more in person gatherings, moving away from using technology as much as it has.
New Westminster
• The summer picnic was well attended.
• Members are helping with the Don’t Go Hungry Food Support Program and the club donated excess funds to the program.

New Westminster – Royal City
• Welcomed their new exchange student, Muki, from Austria.
• Membership continues to increase with a new younger member just joining.
North Vancouver
• In August the club held a social event outdoors at a local park.
Pemberton
• The Rotary Club of Pemberton took a break from regular meetings during the month of August.
• Members met for a social gathering on August 29 at the Beer Farmers and are planning a hike on Sept 9th.
Pender Harbour
• The club inducted one new member, Malcolm McDougall.
• The ClubRunner volunteer module was set up and now club members can enter their volunteer hours themselves in ClubRunner.
• The August 13th Show n’ Shine car show, at the Legion, was a successful fundraiser, due to many sponsors. The Legion benefitted also with their indoor activities. Selling us burgers and beer! We had more entries and more profit than ever before.
• At the August 25th Truth and Reconciliation Event, Hereditary Chief, Craig Craigan (hiwus) told stories of indigenous history and traditions of the early Pender Harbour and how this place came to be, and what it will be in the future.
Richmond
• PDG John Berry presented the club’s 2022-2023 Rotary Citation on August 2.
• Mandy Pui has transferred to the club from the Rotary Club of Oak Bay in Victoria.
• On August 12, 30 club members and friends and family took the opportunity to catch up with each other at a fellowship potluck held at a member’s home, with multi-cultural foods, basketball, and Karaoke.
• The club received the Owl 3 hybrid meeting system purchased with funding from the federal government through the Richmond Community Foundation.
Richmond Sunrise
• The club’s inaugural "Fellowship Meeting" was held with pancakes by Rotarians and stories shared.
• The club is donating $5,000 to relief for victims of the Okanagan fires.
• The club received the Owl 3 hybrid meeting system purchased with funding from the federal government through the Richmond Community Foundation.
Richmond Sunset
• The club is holding a regular club meeting on the first Wednesday of every month and a fellowship meeting on the third Wednesday.
Sechelt
• The club has been running the Snack Bar in Hackett Park every Saturday in August.
• Held second Strategic Planning session to assess the availability of club members, plus volunteer’s time, vs numerous requests for our BBQ set up at NGO and municipal events!
• The club has been getting too many requests for its ‘food truck’ and is now saying no for rest of this year.
• The club organized two Truth and Reconciliation events, one at Mission Point the second. in Pender Harbour at Lions Park, to learn about the history of the area through the stories and personal accounts of hereditary chief and knowledge keeper, Calvin Craigan.
Squamish
• At the August 5th to 7th Rotary Beef BBQ at the Squamish Days Logger Sports members slow roasted 1,600 lbs of beef and served over 2,600 with beef in a bun. The event was well planned and supported by club members and sold out both days.
• The August 10th club meeting included a tour of Backcountry microbrewery followed by lunch.
• The August 17th meeting was at Squamish Library, followed by tour of library and services offered.
Steveston
• Club members volunteered at the Canadian Women’s Open at Shaughnessy Golf Club August 20-28, a huge undertaking as we recruited and organized over 50 volunteers from our club and others and raised $10,000 for our club’s services. Our role was ecology, picking up garbage, recycling, and compost. It was a logistical challenge, but successful and a good team building effort.
• The club was present with its tent and volunteers at the annual, bi-weekly, summer Steveston Farmer’s Market to promote the club and collect donations for a designated project this summer, donations for portable generators in Ukraine sourced through Disaster Aid Canada. The club has raised so far $400 for Ukraine humanitarian support and had inquiries from people about the club and about possibly joining.
• For club meetings, the first Tuesday of the month is a board meeting on Zoom, the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays of the month are morning meeting at the Steveston Community Centre and the last Thursday of the month is an evening meeting and social at the Steveston Legion.
Sunshine Coast Sechelt
• Youth Exchange Student Georgia gave a presentation on her YEX year in Denmark.
• On August 16th club members were giving free ice cream to kids at the Rotary Friendship Park as an opportunity for End Polio campaign awareness and for promoting our other club activities such as the high visibility house number program.
• The August 27th social was a bocce tourney at a member’s home in Davis Bay.
Tsawwassen
• The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen has donated $200,000 to Kin Village Seniors Centre for the creation of a Seniors Day Care Program. The donation will be given in $20,000 increments over 10 years. Kin Village has broken ground on a new facility that will be ready for occupancy in 2025.
• The Rotary Parade at the Tsawwassen SunFest was a great success with over 30 Rotary volunteers and hundreds of hours to make it happen! The club added a pop up booth at the festival to educate the community on Rotary activities and five candidates indicated their interest in becoming members.
• The club continued the summer Wheelers, cocktail events on Fridays with fun backyard events at Rotarians’ homes.
• The club has been working with the Rotary Club of Mbarara, Uganda and has finally submitted its WASH Global Grant to Rotary International for final approval. The project is expected to break ground on a gravity flow water system in the Irimiya area of Uganda soon!
Vancouver Arbutus
• Club members helped load a Rotary World Help container loading for Ukraine.
• They also held a Beach Cleanup at Spanish Banks joined with Surfriders Vancouver, a Community Meal Service at Salvation Army Vancouver.

Vancouver Centennial
• Past AG Dean Hsieh presented Rotary 101 in Mandarin.
• Rotary Support gave links to the Mandarin version of all the learning topics available, and now the club has videos that they can use to orient and add knowledge to their Club members.

Vancouver Cambie
• Three members and one guest attended the Rotary World Help container loading on August 12th.
• President Q attended the Deer Lake Social meeting to encourage interclub relations.
• Attended the Vancouver Korean Canadian Scholarship Foundation scholarship and awards ceremony.

Vancouver Fraserview
• The Club welcomed two new members in the month of August.
• It has contributed over $4,800 to the Rotary Foundation, and $2000 to the PolioPlus fund from donations made at the July Inauguration event.
Vancouver Mountainview
• The Daryabi family members, from Afghanistan, were reunited with their children when they arrived in Vancouver in end of June and the club led a fundraiser to help the Daryabi family come to Canada, raising $2,000 which was given to the club's partner, Unitarian Church of Vancouver, the official refugee sponsor. The process took almost two years to complete.
• A meet and greet was held with the new immigrants, foreign students (international), Temporary Foreign Workers with their families to discuss issues affecting newcomers in BC lead by Rotarian Kamila del Rosario.
• On August 17th the club held a meeting to help revive the 604 Rotaract Club, attended by 25 people.
• On August 23rd the club held a fellowship barbeque dinner at a member's home, with two visiting Rotarians from Rotary Club of Aarhus Aros, Denmark.
• Over the weekend of August 26 and 27, club members participated at Pista ng Bayan cultural presentation and had a booth/ table for public awareness about Rotary and Rotaract and hopefully gain interest and have new members.
• President Bert Parungao donated $750 to club honorary member, Christine Banzon, who is doing her advocacy currently in the Philippines to help people with speech impediments and people in need. A special wheelchair will be purchased for a disabled child.
• The club donated $1,000 for relief of forest fire victims, from a fundraising event.
• A WhatsApp chat group with the over 20 new members of the 604 Rotaract Club.
Vancouver Sunrise
• The club held a successful Sushi Workshop/Project Amigo/Changeover dinner in July. A great fund way to both raise funds, have a social, support a service project while conducting the Changeover.
• Members of the Club supported young people from Rotaract in the Vancouver Pride Parade on August 6th.

West Vancouver
• Club members’ making sandwiches for people facing homelessness in Vancouver continued throughout the summer with 300 sandwiches made and distributed in August.
Whistler
• The club had an open dialogue on club membership, what our membership goals are, what our vision is for the club in 3 to 5 years, how we can attract new members, our plan for increasing membership and applying for the District 5040 Membership Grant.
• A Club Health Check was completed.
• Members adopted the club’s updated Constitution.
Whistler Millennium
• The club continues to support Authors in the School Program & Zero Ceiling.
• At the BMX event in Cheakamus on August 17th the club raised only $250 net, due to high food costs, but it was a great fellowship opportunity for members and the club would hold the event again now that members know how to run it.
