Hello Everyone!

District 5040 Rotaract Clubs have started a new online once a month newsletter that will feature one or two of of our local Rotaract clubs. These letters are intended to keep everyone updated on how our Rotaract Clubs are progressing!

This Month we are featuring our two newest Rotaract Clubs: The Rotaract Club of Squamish is now in its second year, and the newly inaugurated Rotaract Club of Prince George (Pictured above). Please see below for their updates

Sincerely,

Gurinder Walia & Jacquie Peabody

Rotaract Club of Squamish

Our club had a solid start to our 2013- 2014 year. We began the year with our returning co-presidents, Kyle Fawkes and Patricia Wu. We also created a full executive committee.  Our meetings have shifted from structured formal meetings to relaxed conversations over tea.

We have just finished solidifying a volunteer connection with the Squamish community center, the Hotspot. This is part of our goal to enhance our involvement in the Squamish community, and break beyond the boundaries of the Quest University campus. Since our meeting last week, we now have 7 members that are eligible to volunteer for one of the Hotspot’s many community programs. This includes literacy programs, community multicultural events, tutoring and much more.

During the month of February, we completed a Valentine’s Day fundraiser, the Matchmaker. The Matchmaker fundraiser matched students based on the answers they gave to a questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed by two of our Rotaract members and the results were analyzed by Fortress Software Inc. in Ontario. This year, we raised over $300 towards the eradication of Polio.

Ultimately, we hope to continue volunteering in the community and spark further fundraising efforts in the coming months of 2014 and beyond. Thank you for your continuous support. We currently meet at Quest University Canada on Monday evenings (7:15-8PM). We invite everyone to join us for a meeting at any time. Please contact (rotaractsquamish@gmail.com) if you plan on visiting.

Sincerely,

Rotaract Club of Squamish

Rotaract Club of Prince George

On January 29th we had our inauguration ceremony where we officially welcomed 7 members to the family of Rotary. To encourage professional and leadership development in our club members we have had a variety of guest speakers come to meetings. One highlight was Shauna Harper who spoke to our club about professionalism in Social Media. As far as service projects we have completed a bottle drive to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research, volunteered at the Western Biathlon Championships, and hope to by the end of the year purchase a shelter box. We are excited for what the future of Rotaract will be for Rotaract Prince George and excited to share the journey with you all.

Yours in Rotary,

Rotaract Prince George
