Pender Harbour Rotary has built and installed 38 Western Purple Martin nesting boxes throughout the inner harbour for the large type of swallow which nests in groups on early April arrival following migration to the area from Brazil. Here are many of the other achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past month.

Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for April 2026. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed. Network with other clubs for ideas and stay tuned for future reports. Burnaby

Inducted one new member with another soon to be inducted.

 

Burnaby Deer Lake

Dragon

Supported community art exhibition on April 11.

Gibsons

Presentation by the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society about  refurbishment an expansion of their new 8-unit facility at Mossy Rock. The club has donated $2000 to the Society and arranged a site visit for members to Mossy Rock on May 7. 

The club also donated $2000 to the Technology Festival Association of BC.

The club held a social evening at Joe’s Cabin in Gibsons.

 

Ladner

The club inducted its newest Corporate Member, Nurse Next Door franchise in Ladner.

The Spring “Shred for Food” on April 4th raised over $5000 for the South Delta Food Bank and the club-sponsored Delta Secondary Food pantry which enables students from lower income families to take home food for the weekend during the school year.

The club produced an 8-minute video of five members on camera described different impacts and activities of the club, each in part covered by images of related scenes and was presented at the April 18th Area club Meet and Greet and will be used at other future events.

 

New Westminster

Approved $21,000 in funding to multiple local organizations

Hosted Spring Fling fundraiser (120 attendees, strong early results) 

Donated $1,200 to Last Door Society 

 

Pender Harbour

Thursday April 2nd we installed 38 Purple Martin nest boxes at various locations around the harbour. We had built the boxes last month and waited for an expert who worked with us on the best locations for the boxes. The birds like to be in colonies and prefer locations over water. 

With a district grant the club funded a new examination bed and vital signs monitor for our local health clinic.

Wednesday April 8th our 5 RYLA students came to our meeting and talked about their experience. 

The club inducted a new member on April 22.

The  “April Tools” fundraiser,  where the club sold hamburgers and hot dogs – free meal package for 100 children under 12  -- cleared over $1,900.

 

Powell River

The club continues its renovation of the Trail Riders clubhouse

The members went on a field trip to Artique Studios which showcases local artists and their creations.

Guest speakers included Men's Shed, RYLA students, Qathet Foundry and Women’s Fashion Show 

 

Prince George North Area 

The 3 Rotary Clubs and 2 Rotaract Clubs in Prince George held their 3rd annual Hoop A Thon on April 11th in partnership with the UNBC Timberwolves.  A total of 73 participants made 749 baskets and finished shooting in just 2.0 hours (speed basketball). Most of the almost $12,000 raised will be donated to the Roanld McDonald House kitchen renovation project at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia

Two of the 4 clubs in the Area are now eligible for the RI Club Excellence Award

 

Regal Rotaract

Progress on multiple GET projects (IT training, agriculture, education)

Richmond & Delta Area

In place of the cancelled District Conference the eight Richmond and Delta clubs held a Meet and Greet gathering of 75 members, family, friends and prospective members in Richmond on April 18th. Each club presented on its achievements and activities, some with video. There were other general presentations. The value of the event, stressed in comments, was the clubs’ coming together as a collaborative team which can achieve so much more for our communities through Rotary. 

 

Richmond

The club held a quarterly General Assembly on March 25th.

Past President, Suna Yee organized Meet & Greet lunch in Richmond on April 18 on behalf of club leaders, and for members, family, friends and prospective members of the eight Rotary and Rotaract Clubs in Richmond and Delta. Various club members were involved in producing the event.

Speakers' topics at club meetings included Vancouver Cantonese Opera and PathLight Home & Accessibility.

 

Richmond Sunrise

For the emergency calls, training and the courage their jobs demand every single day, Richmond Firefighters, as neighbours, volunteers, and community builders received $6,000 from the club to support their work.

The club's annual gala fundraiser, the "Roaring Twenties" theme, was held on May 1st at the Riverside Grand Ballroom with proceeds supporting several causes every year.

 

Richmond Sunset

Of the 75 members and others who participated in the Meet and Greet lunch among the eight Area clubs, 14 club members attended. The club shared its highlights with a video and a new member was inducted, the 7th new member so far this Rotary year.

Pastor Steve Yau spoke on the Salvation Army’s local programs and funding needs and Spencer Gall from Richmond Hospital on how funding works in the health care system.

 

Tsawwassen

Volunteers served over 400 pancake breakfasts and hosted an Easter egg candy hunt/scramble at the club’s annual Easter in the Park early April . 

Some members volunteered at the Kidsport Fundraiser.

A few members attended the Meet & Greet lunch event among clubs in Delta and Richmond on April 18 where our club, along with each of the others, presented for 10 minutes on highlights of our club.
