Clubs are preparing to send a high school student to Ottawa this Spring for Adventure in Citizenship, joining many from across Canada (photo). Here are many of the other achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past month.

Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for January 2026. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed. Network with other clubs for ideas and stay tuned for future reports. Bowen Island
Inducted the club’s 32nd member.

Ladner
The club is donating $10,000, with a $5,000 District Grant, to the capital campaign of BC and Alberta Guide Dogs for its new Breeding and Training Centre, which just opened for operations. The funds will be used to purchase five pieces of lab equipment in the neonatal unit for veterinarians to use in caring for the valuable, newborn pups as part of the specialized breeding program.
The club contributed to the Ladner Rotary sponsored Interact Club at Delta Secondary School $400 in store cards for the "20 days of giving" to those in need throughout the community – a project which the Interact Club runs every fall. 
The club welcomed one new member.

Lions Gate North Vancouver
Club has been adapting to offer evening meetings on a trial basis for members that cannot attend lunch time meetings.
Hired an event Coordinator for Canada Day event to manage growing workload

Richmond
Donated $1200 to Minoru Senior Centre for their annual Christmas Meal
Helped Minoru Senior Centre deliver Christmas Meals on December 24
Hosted a fundraising concert on December 30 to raise fund for Richmond Homeless Meal programs
Established the satellite club and had 5 satellite club members inducted at the December 30 fundraising concert.
Hosted an inaugural Christmas High Tea on December 13

Richmond Sunset
The major job of taking down all Christmas trees and decorations in the 1st week of January completed the 2025 Winter Wonderland major fundraiser and community contribution.
Club meeting on January 21, with a presentation on ‘The New Art of Living’ that drew a total attendance of 42, majority being friends and volunteers.
The engraving messages of the 500 bricks of for the Rotary International Peace Garden are at the final review stage soon to be finalized by our club and the City of Richmond.

Sea to Sky
The Sea to Sky Amazing Race is scheduled for Saturday May 23rd. We hope to be able to attract a maximum 10 teams of 4 from Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast clubs.$200 per team.  All net proceeds go to RI Foundation. BBQ lunch at the new Rotary Bike Park Plaza in Whistler included. Prizes for winners, losers, best team name and costumes etc.

Steveston
Distributed 41 Christmas hampers to families of students from 5 different elementary schools and 1 secondary school in Steveston and south Richmond.
Helped organize a music fundraiser at the Austria Vancouver Club to raise money for the families affected by the Fraser Place Apartments fire in Steveston. With an additional top-up of funds from our club, 29 families received $500 to help with expenses associated with alternative accommodation, buying needed items, etc. 
A research report conducted by an SFU graduate student on the efficacy of the Write to Read program that implements libraries in Indigenous communities in B.C. was finalized, with partial funding from our club for travel expenses to the communities as part of the research. 
Final report submitted to Disaster Aid Canada on the Fire Trailer project that delivered much-needed robust fire trailers to 4 different communities in the Fraser Canyon and 4 in the Chilcotin regions. 
Ongoing Seniors Meal program to supply and deliver 2 meals to 6 recipients as part of the Minoru Seniors outreach.

Tsawwassen
Dismantled Christmas in the Park lights and decorations in Diefenbaker Park with work parties for this considerable project.
Head of School and students from Southpointe Academy presented a $4000.00+ cheque in excess  towards the clubs Coast2Coast trail project.
Two Major Donor Level 1 Awards presented.
A Shred-a-Thon fundraiser was held on January 31.

West Vancouver Sunrise
Inducted 26th member including one returning member.
Chamber partnership and Interact Programs remains strong.

Whistler and Whistler Millenium
Sending 2 students to the Ottawa Adventures in Citizenship 2026 and hopefully up to 4 RYLA registrations.
