Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise held its annual Ride for Rescue fundraiiser to support North Shore Search and Rescuse (photo). Here are many of the other achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past three months.

Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for June, July and August 2025. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed. Network with other clubs for ideas and stay tuned for future reports. Bowen Island
Bowen Island Rotary Run was held on August 23rd, with registration fees and donations going directly to Komera Canada, a registered Canadian charity that supports young women at high school and university in Rwanda. More than 150 children and adults ran or walked the 1.5, 5, or 10K.

Burnaby
Two new members approved by the Board.
Outgoing and incoming international exchange students started their year.
Two public promotions carried out to raise Rotary’s visibility.

Burnaby Deer Lake
Membership outreach at Burnaby Farmer’s Market.
Hosted PACE participants with socials and international engagement.

Burnaby Metrotown
Hosted a fellowship potluck picnic at Deer Lake.
Inducted a new member

Burnaby Rotaract
Volunteered with Rotary World Help to load a container of medical supplies to the Philippines (Aug 2).
Inducted two new members and hosted a summer potluck/welcome event for PACE participants (Aug 21).
Participated in membership recruitment drive at Burnaby Farmer’s Market (Aug 9).

Dragon
Participated in Burnaby Lake Run with booth supporting Burnaby Hospital Foundation’s fundraising.

Gibsons
The club adopted a new meeting format, with each committee chair presenting committee actions. 
An online member satisfaction survey was completed and members will discuss.
Guest speaker topics included Sunshine Coast Special Olympics and Elder College.
The Annual Rotary Golf Tournament held at Roberts Creek Golf course on August 23 achieving gross proceeds of $38,000.

Ladner
The club inducted 4 new members, 3 regular members and 1 “Not for Profit” Member, with a fourth to be inducted in September.
35 members of the South Delta Weekend Family and Peer Support group for neurodiverse adults and their families and guardians participated in the annual summer picnic which the Rotary Club of Ladner sponsored at Rotary Park on August 10 with the support of 18 Rotary members and friends.
The Raise A Flag fundraiser, in which 134 subscribers had Canadian flags mounted on front yards for a week for Canada Day and will do for Remembrance Day, raised $8000.00 for the club’s projects.
A student sponsored by the club to attend Rotary’s Adventure in Citizenship spoke on her experience. 
The club dedicated a club meeting in tribute to retired Provincial Court Judge Leo Nimsick, a Past District 5040 Governor and, for many years, leader of PETS in Seattle.
The club held a social BBQ social for members, spouses and guests on July 29th.

New Westminster Royal City
The Pot of Gold Golf Tournament attractec 127 golfers and generated revenue over $40,000 with online auction.
Guest speaker topics Massey Theatre); Interact; Climate Action New Westminster.

North Vancouver
The club meeting on August 25, was at the West Vancouver Rotary Bluff Picnic area of Cypress Park on Cypress Road, to check on the status of the park maintenance which was good.

Pemberton
Membership strategy session held

Pender Harbour
On August 10th we held our annual Show & Shine car show which raised over $7,000
August 13th was a presentation on using ClubRunner Nova and on accessing and using MyRotary
August 20th was a members presentation on touring Norway by motorhome for 7 weeks this year after doing the same last year.

Powell River
Blackberry Festival was a huge success despite the stormy weather, with over 140 vendors and a fireworks finale. The event was held in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, and the funds raised will be split between the two organizations.
Two new members have been approved, with their inductions scheduled for early September.

Regal Rotaract
Welcomed one new member.
Progressed on friendship agreements with clubs in Bali and Nigeria.

Richmond
The club held its President's Ball and installation on June 28, attended by 70 Rotarians, VIPs and guests.
A special memorial was held for past president, Jim McPherson (1987-1988) who passed away in Nov, 2024.
15 Rotarians and friends volunteered for the Richmond City Baseball Association as they hosted the BC Minor Baseball 11U AA Provincial Tournament where RC Richmond also promoted Rotary to the general public.

Richmond Lulu Island
Chartered as a new club with 23 new members.

Richmond Rotaract
Participated with other Richmond clubs in decorating the float, and participating in, the Steveston Salmon Festival Parade on July 1, 2025
Connected with Hong Kong Rotarians and Rotaractors for future international projects in the Rotary Club of Kowloon installation on July 17, 2025.
Joined the Roatarct Club of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology installation on July 25, 2025
Members volunteered in the BC Minor Baseball 11U AA Provincial tournament on August 2, 2025

Richmond Sunset
The club made a presentation to the Richmond School Board on Rotary Youth Projects on June 18.
A social meeting on June 17 was held to meet some of the overseas Rotarians en route to the international convention in Calgary
The club inducted a new member.
The club started the Four Way Test reflection when each of the 4 lines is discussed at each meeting.
ABC’s of Rotary circulated to members along with the Club Governance Best Practice Check List which will be reviewed quarterly.
20 members and friends attended a social day-trip to Gambier Island.

Sechelt
BBQ and snack bar was hosted by the club at Hackett Park for Rod Run participants. 
Agreed to fund $2k ($1k from Club + $1k from a Rotarian donor) to International water project 
The club will not continue with Cash calendar 2026 but will continue online  50/50 draw.

Sechelt Sunshine Coast
One new member joined in August
Held 4 Wednesday noon meetings; one of which was in Gibsons (combined subsequently with a visit to the local museum). Speaker topcis included the student sponsored by the club to attend Adventure in Citizenship in Ottawa. The club also held its Society’s AGM which has many non-Rotarians in its membership.
Decided on 5 Club projects to be tackled this and coming years. Completed the easiest of the 5 Projects; which was to sand and repaint the “Service Clubs” highway signage between Roberts Creek and Wilson Creek, which received some press coverage.
Toured the 8 bed Sunshine Coast Hospice facility; currently under construction.
9 from our Club participated in the Richmond Rotary Club Picnic at Half Moon Bay
Held a Club Bar-B-Que social with the focus being a BOCCE tournament. In attendance was a Rotarian from the RC of Vancouver.

Squamish
The club held its annual Beef BBQ fundraiser at Squamish Logger days, with help from Pemberton Rotarians. . 
Club meetings are now every second week and is holding some additional social events.
Membership has dropped from 43 to 33 mainly because inactive members have not renewed. The club held a Membership strategy session.

Steveston
Three  members of the Club attended the Rotary International Convention in Calgary June 21-25, where the first Fire Trailer was showcased to great interest in the House of Friendship.
Construction of a further 8 fire trailers continues to progress well, with planned finalization and delivery of the trailers to Indigenous communities in the Fraser Canyon and the Chilcotin at the end of August.
A paper shredding event at McMath school in early June and the Canada Day pancake breakfast raised more than $7,000 combined.
Bi-weekly participation of the Steveston Rotary Club at the Farmer’s Market in Garry Point has continued to raise the club’s profile locally.
Farewell dinner and presentation of a Paul Harris award to John Kibblewhite (Club President 2023-2024 and 2024-2025) who has moved to Whitehorse.
Donation of $1200 to the Summer Learning Program.

Tsawwassen
The club organized the Rotary Parade as part of the Tsawwassen Sun Festival.
Book Club met to review the book Thunderstuck over a salmon dinner.
A new member was inducted and a former member has returned.
Pancake breakfast meeting was held on Centennial Beach and a year end backyard BBQ held at a member’s home.
Five Honorary Rotarians were awarded
Following the club’s Thursday morning meeting, members went on a field trip to Reifel Bird Sanctuary.
The club awarded two scholarships.
The new Strategic Plan was presented and members were invited to take an online survey to give feedback.
Five Friday night networking socials which have generated a new member application and another one in the works.
Members participated in a bike ride and lunch along the dyke trails in Delta on July 27th.
Gardening Club and Book Club, as a lunch party, have been meeting.

West Vancouver Sunrise
The club held it annual Rotary Ride for Rescue with funds raised for North Shore Rescue.  Great episodes to see on the Knowledge Network.

Whistler
The Canada Day pancake and bbq event raised $7800
Honorariums distributed to partner charities.
Multiple work parties have been improving Rotary Bike Plaza.
August 23 Olympic Plaza BBQ in partnership with the Municipality for their 50th Anniversary event. Only $550 raised in very hot weather.
Luncheon and visit to Lillooet and exploring an Elks Club partnership.
PACE visit August 27th.
