Rotary Club of Langley Central member, Dean Rohrs, has been appointed Vice President of Rotary International for 2017-18.

Dean is currently serving as Rotary International Board Director for 2016-18 for Zones 24 & 32 (Canada, Bermuda, Alaska, Washington, New York, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania).

“We are so very proud of our Past District 5040 Governor, Dean Rohrs, on her appointment as RI Vice President,” says District 5040 Governor Lyn Stroshin. “We in District 5040 send our profound congratulations to Dean.”

Lyn said that, given her heritage in South Africa and her many years in Canada, Dean brings her global perspective as well as her extensive Rotary and business experience and her strong humanitarian background to this position.

“Dean is a visionary and she will bring a clear and ‘real’ perspective to this position. I know Rotary around the world will be well served and represented by Dean in this challenging new role.

With her husband Rhino (Reinhold), Dean is an owner and administrator at Rhide Technologies Inc., which supplies soil stabilization products for road construction.

Dean and Rhino, with their three children, emigrated to Canada from South Africa 26 years ago.  Born into a Rotary family, Rohrs grew up in Zambia and after marrying “Rhino” lived in Malawi, Namibia and South Africa.  She joined Rotary in 1989.  On arriving in Vancouver both Dean and Rhino joined the Rotary Club of West Vancouver and now are members of the Rotary Club of Langley Central in District 5050.

Earlier in her professional career, Rohrs was a nurse in Cape Town, South Africa, working as part of Dr. Christiaan Barnard’s heart transplant team. From 1959 to 1990, she was active in the Red Cross in South Africa. She also has served on the board of the West End Seniors Network, and currently serves on the board of a girls’ school in Malawi.

Since joining Rotary in 1989 Dean has served as Rotary coordinator, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and District Governor. She is a Rotary Foundation Benefactor, Major Donor, and Bequest Society member. She and Rhino are Paul Harris Fellows.
