Tuesday, July 4 - We needed to get to the Terrace area and back quickly, so we flew to Terrace and headed off to drive to Smithers, BC for our first Official Rotary Club Visit.

The drive was stunning on a perfect morning, and because the Smithers club meets at dinner time we were able to enjoy many stops along the way - even seeing a black bear family up close! Stops were made at Old Hazelton as well as Moricetown Canyon, then we arrived with time to walk Smithers before meeting up with President Leigh Williams.

At Louise's Kitchen, where the club meets, we met with Leigh and several members of the Smithers Rotary club executive, then enjoyed a delicious home cooked dinner and their regular club meeting. This was our first "DG Talk" and we managed through it, with time for questions and dialogue. We had time for a visit to the nearby Gordon L Williams Rotary Park with several club members, and then Leigh and Glen from the club showed us a new bridge on the walking trial that Rotary had built as well as the Rotary kitchen at the local fairgrounds. Great Rotary work is evident in Smithers by this active Rotary Club - Rotary is highly visible in this community.
