Thursday, November 2 -  Assistant Governor Nancy Eidsvik describes the Rotary Club of Burnaby Deer Lake as  "the little club that does", and that is in evidence as we make a breakfast visit in their new venue of Tivoli at the Executive Inn in Burnaby.   It is great to see this club growing, and we are pleased to induct new member Nazir Nenshi to the club.   We also present multiple Paul Harris pins to President Frank Peabody and Rotarian (and District Treasurer) Janice Froese.

Janice is just back from Africa, where she visited some of the club's International (medical missions) work.   The club is also very active in youth work, and is sponsor club for the Burnaby Rotaract club and the Rotaract annual PACE tour, as well as in Interact - they sponsor two Interact clubs in Burnaby.

Locally, as we are just getting into winter,  the club's two major projects - Boots for Kids and Festival of Lights are getting underway.   Approximately 400 pairs of new boots are provided to needy kids through the Burnaby schools, and the Festival of Lights at Brentwood Mall helps raise funds for their work.   In the summertime, the club is active with the Eagle Creek Streamkeepers in the Burnaby Lake area.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Burnaby Deer Lake on their progress and great work!
