Capital for Kids Democracy in Action Youth Conference
Victoria, BC
October 26 – 28, 2014

Rotary Clubs of BC are partnering with the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development for a pilot project aimed at providing an educational experience for young British Columbians so they can better understand the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship, engage more actively in their civic duties as youth leaders in their communities, and encourage others to do the same.

Participants will travel to the provincial Capital for a two-and-a-half day mini conference where they will explore BC’s democratic institutions including Government House, the Parliament Buildings and the Royal BC Museum. They will also have an opportunity to meet and talk with government leaders and senior officials to learn about the electoral process and government operations.

Nomination and sponsorship of participants in this program is limited to British Columbia Rotary Clubs. A club may sponsor only one student between the age of 16 and 18 years of age. The maximum number of students to be accepted in this pilot project is 30, and the number of applications from regions may be limited in the interests of maintaining a reasonable geographic balance. Participating clubs are encouraged to give special attention to the selection of their representatives, recognizing that strong, enthusiastic candidates contribute to the overall experience.

The sponsoring Rotary Club will be required to complete an application form and send a $350 registration fee to be received no later than September 25, 2014.

This program holds great promise and I believe that the participants will have a tremendous learning experience and enjoy themselves very much.

Thank you all for your support and patience.
