Sea to Sky Community Services Society (SSCS) helps thousands of children, youth and adults through more than 40 community services and programs in BC’s Sea to Sky corridor, from Squamish up to Pemberton.
In 2019, the Society consulted with community members, including youth, to consider a new centre for youth, as an integrated, inclusive, non-judgmental space for young people, providing them access to a variety of supports.
In 2020, the Society received partial funding to replace a dilapidated (condemned) Youth Resource Centre with a new youth centre – the $2.2 million, 5,000 sq ft Foundry Sea to Sky -- where young people aged 12-24 can access mental health, primary care, substance use intervention, peer support, and social services, all under one roof.
One key component of the Foundry Sea to Sky youth centre is the integrated Squamish Youth Hub, a safe space and recreational centre that hosts programs, activities and games, and allows youth to simply hang out and be with friends.
The Rotary Club of Squamish provided $30,000.00 in funding to furnish the Squamish Youth Hub, providing technology equipment, a pool table, and other recreational equipment including a $10,000 District Grant from The Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Squamish and Rotary District Grant funding has supported the purchase of technology equipment such as a large screen TV, five iPads, iPhones and several laptops, of a pool table, equipment and furnishings and of recreational equipment, such as backpacks, hiking equipment, yoga mats, indoor fitness equipment, outside sports equipment and musical equipment.
Sea to Sky Community Services operates Foundry Sea to Sky. Cross-sector partnerships and collaboration are key to the success of Foundry Sea to Sky, and will ensure its viability long into the future. Funding and operational partnerships have also been established with the Province of BC, Vancouver Coastal Health, and many local government and community partners. Other cooperating organizations include British Columbia's Foundry Program for Mental Health and Addictions Support, Squamish Lillooet Regional District, the District of Squamish, Squamish Hospital Foundation, and Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish) Nation.
