The 2019 District 5040 Conference will be held on May 2-5 at Sun Peaks Resort. After a drive for 45 minutes from Kamloops you enter the European-style village of Sun Peaks and you will immediately understand why this place is known for it's recreational opportunities and wonderful facilities. A perfect location to be inspired for a great conference! Definitely a District Conference not to miss!
Razia Jan and her team provide free education to hundreds of girls in rural Afghanistan. She will have just returned to North America when she speaks to delegates at the Conference in Sun Peaks on Saturday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m.
In 2012, Razia was nominated for a CNN "Top 10 Heroes Award."
Here is the video that CNN used to introduce Razia to the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwX33cSzqMQ
"What is peace?" With that thought-provoking opening, 2019 District Conference keynote speaker Summer Lewis gently challenged the 2018 Rotary International Assembly in San Diego to re-think conventionally held norms of peace - both globally and in our own back yards.
Check out a video of her presentation:
Summer will be travelling from her home in Oaxaca, Mexico to Sun Peaks, BC to motivate and inspire delegates to the 2019 District 5040 Conference on Saturday morning May 5th.
You won't want to miss her presentation!
Rotarian of the Year... Club of the Year... just two of the coveted awards to be announced and celebrated at this year's District Conference in Sun Peaks, BC, at the Annual Conference Gala Dinner - Saturday, May 5th. As well, DG Darcy Long - she who has a challenge keeping a secret - will finally let the cat out of the bag about the recipients of the 2019 District Governor Awards.
Plus - at the Annual General Meeting - Saturday afternoon May 5th - there will be "People of Action" recognition, membership awards, and the Public Image Award.
At last year's District Conference, as DG Darcy was promoting her conference in 2019, she suddenly whipped out a pair of scissors and hacked off the MC's blue Rotary tie - his pride and joy. Why did she do that you might ask???
If you need a lift or can offer a lift to Sun Peaks, please contact Rotarian Nancy Eidsvik - nancy@eidsvik.ca.
Brittany Arthur wowed the crowd as a keynote speaker at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Friday, May 3rd she's featured in a joint District 5040/5060 "Rotary NOW" presentation at the Coast Hotel Kamloops. Here's a preview:
The Honourable Steven L. Point, BC Lieutenant-Governor from 2007 to 2012, will join a conference panel discussion Saturday May 4th highlighting the progress of an innovative and impactful Rotary project in British Columbia - Write to Read BC.
Write to Read brings together people who have an interest in increasing literacy equity through access to literacy materials for rural and remote indigenous communities. It delivers books, libraries, computers, tablets and high speed Internet connection to remote First nations communities in BC.
A former BC Provincial Court judge and Chief Commissioner of the BC Treaty Commission, Steven Point was BC’s first aboriginal Lieutenant-Governor.
District Governor Darcy chats Conference 2019 with her childhood idol Topo Gigio!
While we'd like to say that part of "rolling out the red carpet" at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Center included a $7 million renovation just for Rotarians - we can't.
Still, attendees at District Conference 2019 will enjoy the comforts afforded by a recent complete guestroom makeover at the Sun Peaks Grand.
Here's how the hotel describes the reno: "This plan will transform the 221 rooms into quiet luxury with an updated contemporary attitude balanced with a hint of modern rustic."
