The Rotary Club of Prince George Yellowhead has been sponsoring the program since 1989. Each year in MAY, Rotary Clubs across Canada sponsor one student to attend this program. Participation is limited to a maximum of 40 candidates in what has proved to be a rewarding and educational experience for these young people.

Candidates selected by the sponsoring Rotary Club club must be enrolled in and attending school (Grade 11 or 12) and be maintaining acceptable grade standards. Preferably, the candidate should be considering a career in the forest industry or environmental studies.

The program consists of three exciting days of actively observing the BC Forest Industry as it is conducted in the Central Interior of the province. Program overview: silviculture, timber extraction, sawmill operation, value added pulp operation, paper process, forest planning and G.I.S., as well as the College of New Caledonia and the University of Northern BC. Exposure.

The program is offered by the Yellowhead Rotary Club to the participants at no cost other than travel and spending money. The program includes billets for out of town students and local transportation for all attendees. Out-of-town participants will be required to make their own travel arrangements.

Additionally the Adventure Program awards a bursary each year to a student completing high school and continuing on to a post-secondary education. Eligibility for this bursary is limited to those students who participated in the Adventure in Forestry program. This bursary has been established in recognition of the vital role, which the forest industry plays, in Canada. It also acknowledges the importance of fostering interest in professional forest industry careers.

The sponsoring Rotary clubs are required to submit a $450.00 registration fee to assist in covering program expenses.
