Don Evans and Deb Sankey

As District Governor Elect, Don will be the District 5040 Governor in the 2017 – 2018 Rotary Year.
 
Don Evans has been active in Rotary for more than 30 years. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Vancouver (2002-2003) and has held many different positions with his club. He has been active with District 5040 Strategic Planning, a member of the District Foundation Committee and was a PETS Trainer. He was named Rotarian of the Year in 5040 in 2014,  and is now District 5040 Governor Elect for 2017-18.
 
Don is a Paul Harris Society Member and a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation. Both Don and Deb are Bequest Society members.
 
In business, Don established DJE Holdings Ltd. in 1998 following his retirement from the telecommunications industry, where BC Tel employed him for over 31 years. Since then, his work in leadership skills and business strategy has taken him throughout North America, to China, much of Europe, and a unique project as part of the peace process in Northern Ireland working with the Police Service on their leadership and conflict resolution skills. 
 
Active in the community, Don is a Past Chair of the Board of E-Comm 911 (Emergency Communications for Southwest B.C.), and also a long time member of the Vancouver Board of Trade. He has a major passion for railways and railway preservation, and is President Emeritus of the West Coast Railway Association and a Board Member of the Association of Tourist Railways and Railway Museums.
 
He was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for his active community involvement and was named 2005 Business Person of the Year by the Squamish Chamber of Commerce for his work with the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in that community (which was the site of the Rotary District 5040 Conference in May, 2014.) Recently, he has been named a recipient of the Caring Canadian Award which will be presented March 4, 2016 by the Governor General of Canada.
 
A resident of North Vancouver, Canada, he is married to wife Deb, has two children from a previous marriage and four grandchildren, and enjoys classic cars (a one owner 1967 Nova SS!) hiking, photography, cycling and playing piano.
